The Shenandoah Collection

Story behind this collection.

A few of years ago, the club I belong to (CORC) was asked to dismantle a model train collection in Penticton. Nobody had ever heard of this person as a model railroader, but it soon became apparent he had had considerable skills. He had an HO, HOn3 and N Scale layout, all named "Shenandoah". This gentleman had been a postie in Colorado before moving to British Columbia and taking on the same kind of work here..

The only layout that was portable was the N Scale layout which I purchased, lock, stock and barrel with all associated equipment. The HOn3 layout, an absolute marvel had to be dismembered along with the HO layout. There was numerous rolling stock, buildings and other material that was obviously saved and disposed of. Generally speaking it was an absolute shame.

Anyway, the layout was taking up too much room in my apartment so I sold it to an acquaintance after refitting it electrically and making it viable to be operated with DCC. The trackwork this gentleman had done on this layout was unbelievable. Tenshodo powered switches, all ballasted and using Peco 70 track. I was able to run a train at speed backward through the whole layout without derailing !!!

On my custom display module

This a collection of the named locomotives (The NYC Loco is not part of the deal)
This is the named car collection
Other Freight Cars Minitrix F-7's with some extra details

This is what the layout originally looked like. It had a lift off mountain, Three hidden staging tracks under the mountain, and cab control.

I redid the wiring so it would be able to handle DCC, giving many more options.                          The yard with some of my CP stuff.

Running my GN Set, here it is on the layout.

And running my NP Set.

And here with a bit of my Santa Fe Gear.
